Do Kwon to be extradited to South Korea: Report

Do Kwon, the co-founder of the bankrupt Terraform Labs, may be extradited to his native South Korea, rather than the United States, where he will face charges.

According to various local media reports, an appeals court overturned an earlier decision by the High Court in Podgorica, Montenegro, to extradite Kwon to the U.S., citing “significant violations of the provisions of criminal procedure.”

Per The Wall Street Journal, Kwon expressed a preference to be extradited to South Korea, where he’d be closer to his family. Kwon reportedly faces up to 40 years in prison in the country. 

Terraform Labs filed for bankruptcy in the United States on Jan. 21. The Terra ecosystem collapsed in May 2022. Kwon was not seen after the collapse until he was apprehended in Montenegro, where he was allegedly using a fake passport to travel to Dubai.

Tesla’s Bitcoin (BTC) holdings have become a topic of discussion in the crypto community again after cryptocurrency data analytics platform Arkham Intelligence added Tesla’s Bitcoin wallet tracking feature to its dashboard. Tesla’s wallet now holds about 11,509 BTC at the time of writing, 1,789 more than the 9,720 BTC it reported during its last earnings report.

The Musk-led Tesla bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin in February 2021, near the peak of the last bull run, and it announced plans to accept Bitcoin payments for its cars. However, the firm’s Bitcoin adoption was short-lived, with the company first selling about 10% of its holdings in March 2021. In the second quarter of 2022, the electric carmaker sold approximately 75% of its Bitcoin reserves.
